Kanye’s outburst at the VMA’s was pretty perfect for this blog’s thesis, actually.

The best “music video of the decade?” Not only is it personally emblematic of a kind of selfishness that will willingly let other things fall to the wayside (friendship, courtesy) in the name of whatever imaginary spectre of art they decide to invoke, but the social utility of of music videos is quite frequently near nil, and to elevate it into something worthy or emblematic of a decade is a disappointment.

More importantly — however many millions of albums aside, Taylor Swift is 19 and Kanye is 32. That shouldn’t happen.
